Abstract
Nobody likes poverty, but the fact is that poverty is all around us, maybe even we ourselves are included in it. God did not create the poor, because God did not only provide “land” and “material”, but also competence for all human beings, but in fact throughout human life on earth, poverty has never been neglected. Of course, poverty is not a sin, but its causes are closely related both to mismanagement and even systemic sin. Therefore, poverty is not only a very serious social problem, it is also a theological problem.
Of course, the church doesn't like poverty. The fact is that the church is in the midst of poverty, not even a few church members are in the poverty line. If the Indonesian churches do not like poverty, what has been done in this very rich country? This article examines the causes of poverty in light of the Old Testament, affirming God's heart for the poor and the Christian response to poverty in Indonesia. The purpose of this article is to will make the church more and more burdened about the fact that the poverty rate is increasing, and at the same time make the church act, not solely for sociological and humanistic reasons but more than that, namely for basic theological reasons starting from the heart of God for the poor.
