Abstract
This article provides an overview of the ideas conceived by Lesslie Newbigin and Johan Herman Bavinck about the basis of the Trinity on a theology of mission. The mission-based on the Trinitarian framework is the mission that does not distinguish between 'the gospel and social jus-tice' or 'Word' and 'deed'. There are various reasons and aspects proposed by Newbigin and Bavinck why mission must be basing on the the doctrine of the Trinity. According to Newbigin and Bavinck, the missions based on the Trinitarian framework can answer challenges and obstacles in the mission field. Besides that, they also have differences. For Newbigin, the proper theological foundation of the mission is based on the Triune God build upon his struggles in mission service and participation in the IMC (International Missionary Council) and WCC (World Council of Churches). While for Bavinck, it is essential to investigate the Bible first to conclude that the foundation for mission is the Triune God.
