Abstract

It is well known that Christians, although saved, often disobey God's law. This made them miserable, so the Keswick Movement of the 19th century sprang up. The purpose of this study is to give a solution to the errors of Keswick Theology on the subject of Christian sanctification, so that Christians can live a healthy spiritual life according to biblical principles. There are three main issues in Keswick Theology: First, the separation of justification and sanctification. Second, the understanding of holiness. Third, the problem of Quietism. This thesis is based on Ryle's "Holiness" to criticize the above three points, and combine some of the teachings of the book, and apply them to the Christian life. The results show that Keswick Theology is not in line with the spiritual reality of Christian life and is very harmful. True Christianity is a fight, and to be a true believer one must count the cost of following Christ. Keswick’s main focus is on the growth of Christians. It does not deviate from Christianity in its core doctrines, and it has also influenced many to serve. So when Ryle was invited to Keswick Convention in 1892, he showed that although he did not agree with some of their views, he was willing to accept them in the Lord. Therefore, although "Holiness" has a controversial background, its purpose is to establish biblical concepts, not to debate. May the readers of this thesis have a similar attitude, for this is the effect of true biblical holiness.
