Abstract

Analytical surveys have shown that the life of faith in Western society has shifted from believing in an authoritative and sovereign God to turning into a life that leaves God and replaces God's authority with something else. This is related to the spirit of the ideology of Secularism which emerged as the antithesis of the Reformation movement with the spirit of sola scriptura (back to the word of God). Secularism is an ideology or a worldview that functions in the same way as a religion or a new form of belief. Secularism has reduced religion to the level of being replaced and considers that religion is an irrational force that must be removed from the public sphere. This ideology of Secularism contradicts with the Christian worldview as stated by Cornelius Van Til in his apologetics that the entire world of space-time owes its existence to God's will. In other words, the universe does not derive its existence from any other source other than God. In a presupotitional apologetic perspective, Van Til clearly states that, like other non-Christian thoughts, secularist which emphasizes the freedom of personal thought including logic that does not refer to God, rational superiority and individualism contradicts with the Christian principles by rejecting the God of the Bible as God the Sovereign Ruler over all matters and the highest authority of thought and every aspect of human life. Presuppositional apologetics criticizes that secularism has replaced the position of the Creator as a true Ruler who is authoritative, infinite, eternal, and unchangeable with humans as creatures that are derivative, limited, temporary and subject to change, causing the principle of secularism to be inconsistent with one another.
